First Step, A Response to Domestic Violence

First Step began In 1979 as a local task force was implemented to investigate the type of services needed for domestic violence victims in our area. Ultimately, the shelter found its current home where First Step provides services that address the issue of domestic violence as an advocate, educator, and resource agency.

First Step believes all people have the right to live without violence or the fear of violence. They provide hotline/crisis intervention, shelter, a support group, legal advocacy, counseling for both children and adults who have been victimized, and case management to assist their clients’ transition into an abuse free life.
